ABOUT
Connections is apart of the greater RSS community where support and skill building is provided for students who struggle with anxiety. Students will work towards developing social and emotional literacy, and develop skills and tools to manage symptoms of anxiety with the goal of functioning independently within the school .
Connections provides a place where students can relate to each other, feel accepted, appreciated, safe, cared for, and a general sense of belonging.
With an inviting classroom, full time Support Teacher, resident Counsellor, and ARC Support Worker, Connections provides skill development to support students in their everyday lives.
AIM:
The goal is to have students attend their daily classes, and use the connections classroom for support as needed.
What does support look like?
The supports students receive will depend on their needs within the school, assessed through their school Counsellor and Administrator. Connections provides three levels of support:
Tier 3 – Student has a scheduled class in the Connections room where skills and strategies are taught through a variety of sources. They may access the room frequently to work on self-regulating skills or as a temporary quiet place to complete academic work. Student's will have weekly Counselling sessions with Connections Counsellor. There will be daily monitoring of attendance, classroom progress and regular communication with home.
Tier 2 – Student can access the room on an as needed basis. They do not have a scheduled block in the Connections class. There will be periodical check-ins with student and classroom teachers, periodical communication with home.
Tier 1 – Student has been brought forward through the Counselling and Administration team, they may access the room as needed and are monitored to see if greater interventions are required.
